Core Values
Career Focus
Part of being a Great Team, of course, is managing our team so that it stays great. This means adding bright, driven, and creative members to the team—and it means ensuring that all team members have the education, training, and tools that they need to stay on top of their game. In short, it's about staying focused on our team members' careers—not just on their current roles within a particular project. This is what we mean when we talk about Career Focus. It's our people, after all, who grow our relationships with our clients and who provide the technical, managerial, and collaborative skills that ultimately bring value to the client. To support our clients, then, we have to support our people.
Rather than try to describe how we support our people in their careers, I will share a story that one shared with me. One of our clients was, unfortunately not respectful of any contractor employees. The customer demanded regular overtime and created a hostile work environment. Despite efforts of HPTi employees to remain professional, the client never returned the respect and continuously demanded work beyond the contract scope and treated people without dignity. When the project team turned to HPTi management for help, HPTi decided that in no way was it going to let our people continue in this type of work environment.
The contract had a one-year base with two option years. HPTi cancelled the contract and did not bid on the options. At the loss of revenue and client presence, we said, "No, you may not treat our people in this manner." Our people were removed and placed elsewhere, at a visible loss to the bottom line for that year.
HPTi is a company of people. We don't build airplanes, we don't resell computer laptops. Our core products are our services, and services are performed by people. The quality we offer to the marketplace is based on the quality of our people, and they are our first priority.
